St. Patrick's Pontifical University in Maynooth, Ireland, known as Maynooth College, is a Catholic university located near Dublin. Established in 1795 as the Royal College of St. Patrick, it was intended to train Catholic priests, with a capacity for 500 students and up to 90 ordinations annually, becoming the world's largest seminary. The Pontifical University at Maynooth, authorized by a pontifical charter in 1896, grants degrees in canon law, philosophy, and theology. The college has a historical association with the state-run Maynooth University, sharing a campus and some facilities.
